photo by Michael Zide 1992Steven Riel grew up in Monson, Massachusetts, and he graduated from Wilbraham & Monson Academy, Georgetown University (A.B., 1981), Simmons College (M.S.L.S., 1987), and New England College (M.F.A. in Poetry, 2008).
His first chapbook of poetry, How to Dream, was published by Amherst Writers & Artists Press in 1992 with the help of a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. His second chapbook, The Spirit Can Crest, was published in 2003.
Stevens third chapbook, Postcard from P-town, the first runner-up for the inaugural Robin Becker Chapbook Prize, was published by Seven Kitchens Press in March 2009.
He served as poetry editor of RFD Magazine from 1987 to 1995, and was named the 2005 Robert Fraser Distinguished Visiting Poet at Bucks County Community College. He is currently a collective member of Trio House Press.
Steven works as Head of the HUL CONSER Office and the E-Resources, Serials, and Government Documents Cataloging unit in the Harvard College Library's Technical Services department.
